$170 per 50-minute session
To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier, the first thing you should do is call them, there should be a 800 number on your insurance card under "Substance abuse, behavioral health, or mental health issues". Check your coverage carefully and make sure you understand their answers. Some helpful questions you can ask them:
- What are my mental health benefits? It is described in insurance terms as "out-patient psychotherapy".
- What is the coverage amount per therapy session? Ask what is the usual and customary reimbursement rate? This rate is often different from what therapists actually charge.
- How many therapy sessions does my plan cover? I do not participate in any of the managed care and or preferred provider panels so ask if you have an "out-of-network benefit".
- How much does my insurance pay for an "out-of-network" provider?
